At Delphi, in Greece. In the photo, the sacred navel of the ancient Greek world.
Ilaria Vasdeki
Somatic artist and researcher, for over twenty years I have explored the body as a place of threshold, relationship and transformation.
I live in Rome with my family.
I am the mother of a young girl.
Trained as an architect, I worked for several years as a relational artist through the tool of ritual performance.
I collaborated with the Stalker group, exhibited at the Venice Biennale, and deepened the ritual-performative approach through my doctoral research (Sapienza University of Rome, Faculty of Engineering) before dedicating myself to the body as a sacred space.
Today my somatic work is focused on the feminine. I accompany women in regaining trust in their inner sensing and finding support in Mother Earth.
In 2023 I founded Curanderia Femminile in Rome, a research and outreach project dedicated to feminine wisdom and to the healing of the patriarchal syndrome. With Grembosofia, the method born from sixteen years of research, I accompany women through individual journeys of deep transformation.
My ancestral teachers are the Greek ancestresses who fought for independence. From them I received strength, determination and a profound sense of justice.
I encountered Yoga through the legacy of my paternal grandfather, who was also a teacher. I trained as a Yoga and Restorative Yoga instructor with Paola Del Monaco and with Audrey Favreau, a student of Judith Lasater.
I am listed in the register of the Restorative Yoga teachers’ community of Lazio and in the international register of certified Restorative Yoga teachers. I received the transmission of the Sobada womb massage from Dr. Elena Benigni and from the Chilean midwife Daniela Salinas.
With the African artist Aminatà Fofana I learned the sacred rhythm of the drum. The Aurunca forest taught me to listen.
My approach is direct, concrete and visionary at the same time. It integrates techniques from ancient disciplines such as yoga or the massage traditions of Mayan women, lived experience, and practices drawn from my background as an artist. My body is the instrument through which I listen, intuit and move in relationship, seeking a connection between what I see and feel and what is still invisible but ready to emerge.
Care, for me, is a form of art.
